Shady Grove Solid Waste Meeting Set for Sept. 2

Luedtke Aug 13, 2026
Councilmembers Dawn Luedtke and Sidney Katz will host a community meeting on September 2, 2026 from 7–8:30 p.m. at the MCDOT Division of Highway Services Depot (17000 Crabbs Branch Way) to discuss Montgomery County's proposed shift to long-haul landfilling of solid waste. The proposal, under review by the County Council this fall, would replace the existing system of transporting waste by train to the Resource Recovery Facility (incinerator) with truck-based hauling to an out-of-County landfill. DEP representatives will be present to answer questions about potential impacts, including increased truck traffic near the Shady Grove Transfer Station.
