Supreme Court Bars Review of TPS Termination for Haitians, Syrians

Elrich Jun 25, 2026
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on June 25, 2026 that it would not review whether the federal administration followed the law when it terminated Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian and Syrian nationals. The decision removes legal protection for TPS holders from multiple countries, including El Salvador, Honduras, Venezuela, Somalia, and others — more than 33,000 Marylanders in total. County Executive Marc Elrich issued a statement saying Montgomery County will not inquire about immigration status when residents seek county services and that local laws bar county resources from being used in federal deportation efforts.
