Metro Red Line Closes Between North Bethesda and Friendship Heights

WMATA Red Line construction began July 6, 2026 and runs through September 6, 2026, suspending train service between North Bethesda and Friendship Heights. The Grosvenor-Strathmore, Medical Center, and Bethesda stations will be closed; free shuttle buses running every 5–8 minutes will replace train service, with both local and express options. The project includes building a second mezzanine at Bethesda station for Purple Line integration, platform rehabilitation at Grosvenor-Strathmore, and maintenance of the elevated track over Rockville Pike/MD 355.
